Abergele Celebrates local Volunteers and Community Groups at the First Annual Community Awards Ceremony

Abergele Town Council welcomed local volunteers, community groups, and clubs to the town hall last night, for its first-ever Abergele Community Awards Event.

The ceremony celebrated community spirit and honoured local people who have made positive contributions to the community in Abergele, Pensarn, and St. George.

The Deputy Mayor of Abergele, Cllr Alan Hunter, welcomed guests with a heartfelt message about the people of the community:

“The purpose of these awards is simple but meaningful - to shine a light on the individuals and groups whose dedication, kindness, volunteer work, creativity, and community spirit help shape Abergele for the better. It is a true honour to stand with all of you, who often work quietly behind the scenes, who make such a difference in our community. Tonight, we celebrate all your successes, large and small, and thank you for all you do”.

The evening was compered by Dliwyn Price, who, as always, brought warmth, humour, and effortless professionalism to the stage. Guests enjoyed a melodic welcome harpists Mia and Elen, and after the ceremony, were treated to an uplifting set by The Harmony Belles.

The panel of judges, including representatives from the CVSC and One Voice Wales had their work cut out for them because across the six categories, the Finalists reflected the very best of Abergele — from volunteers working towards inclusion, to young people leading positive change, alongside environmental champions, sports teams, and supporters of our local culture.

This inaugural event was funded by the North West Wales Community Cohesion Team, which allowed the Town Council to bring the community together for a night of celebration and recognition. Abergele Town Council extends its sincere thanks to the team for their commitment to promoting community cohesion across the region. The Town Council would also like to thank Events Conwy for their invaluable support in bringing this event to life, and of course, Abergele TV for their videography.

Most importantly, the Town Council would like to thank all the Finalists, whose efforts are the threads that hold our community together — strengthening the lives of those who live and work here and enriching Abergele in countless, meaningful ways.
