Abergele Town Council have set a budget for 2025/26 for the Abergele area.

The total precept (tax) that will be allocated to the Town Council is £366,459 - this is an increase in the Band D from £68.29 in 2024/25 to £70.70 per household for 2025/26, and an increase of £18,173 from the 2024/25 Precept of £348,286.

This decision was taken to balance the funding for the already agreed projects that the Council fund such as Car parks, Fireworks, CCTV, grant funding small organisations, other Community events and schemes such as a summer fayre, Christmas concert, VE Day event, planter maintenance, path maintenance to name but a few.

The Council is using a substantial amount of reserves in order to balance the 2025/26 of £120,989, which will leave the Council with only 26.43% in its reserve.

This is only just above the recommended minimum of 25%, that should be reserved for emergencies, as recommended in the Governance and Accountability for local Councils in Wales, Practitioners guide.

Unfortunately, this has meant that the Council are not able to fund everything that it would have wished to and has therefore taken the difficult decision to only fund the sponsorship request for the County Council to keep the toilets open for Pensarn. The future of the other toilets will be for the County Council to decide. To keep one set of toilets open will cost the Council £15,286 for 2025/26 plus the ongoing cost of any vandalism that will occur during the year.

The Town Council have not taken this decision lightly and hope that other solutions are available in the future. The Town Council will endeavour to maximise any grants available to fund its projects and schemes to save on the above spends and ensure that any future increase to the precept is kept to a minimum.
